Brother Alan B. Burnham

 -1988-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 19, 1987 and after Installation everyone was invited to the Rex Phebus Memorial Hall for a fine buffet furnished by the newly installed Master.

It was noted with sorrow that Bro. C. Sam Johnson, Past Master of Clovis Lodge, passed away on December 31, 1987. Kind words spoken were," Bro. Johnson had been in failing health for many years. We are sure he will be missed by everyone who knew him and depended upon him to get things done."

At the stated meeting in January a new rental agreement was read and approved and carried by motion and vote to be accepted. It was official Clovis Lodge now had to pay rent.

On January 21st, Bro. Edward Neville had the opportunity to recite his degree proficiency in front of a large crowd that include Bro. Sam M. Pavlovich the Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of the state of California.( As if the proficiency wasn't hard enough by itself!) :)

In February the very first crab feed dinner was held in the dining hall before the meeting. And Alan and Dorothy are still doing them a number of years later. Life lesson #34: Do a good job the first time and it will be yours for eternity! hehehe

In April the Secretary Bro. C. D. Irby Jr. Past Master of Clovis Lodge, tendered his resignation. And there was another Past Masters night in May.

In June the discussion of Ponderosa Lodge 700 becoming more closely associated with Clovis Lodge was again mentioned. In July Bro. Clarence McCain Louchant received his 50-year pin at his home in Hanford, Ca., Worshipful Brother Bersani, Senior Warden James "Jake" Marshall and Secretary Pro-tem Richard Guttridge PM attended.

At the July stated meeting it was decided by motion and vote to purchase 10 Hiram Award medallions and there was a committee formed to advise the Lodge on the proposal made by Ponderosa Lodge regarding their coming into Clovis Lodge.

On July 25th Bro. Howard Stafford, Past Master of Clovis Lodge, passed away and was laid to rest on July 28th. Kind words spoken were," He was known to be outstanding in the ritual and will be missed by all of his friends at Clovis Lodge. "

In September the brother who had been installed as Marshall had to resign. In October Clovis Lodge contributed an average of $5.07 per person from 192 people to the Masonic Homes of California.

It was moved by motion and vote that the Master and Secretary sign and notarize the title of Clovis Lodge and transfer title of the building to the Masonic Temple Association and with the swoop of a pen, the building was gone. :)

Bro. Alan Burnham is still busy and very active in the ranks of Clovis Lodge today. He is a 33 degree Mason through the Fresno Valley of the Scottish Rite and has so many other distinctions that I don't have the time or the ability to type them all. He is a very positive role model for the younger members of the Lodge and as always all of the help he continues to give is appreciated.

Brethren lost in this year were Bro's. C. Sam Johnson PM, Victor Addison Clifford, Richard Eric Noren, George Joseph Gegogeine, Henry M. Miller, Delbert Elliot Roop, William Earl Dimmer, Robert Monroe Segress, Phil Z. Cole, Howard B. Stafford PM, Duncan Dunnicliff, William Eldridge Roe, Kenneth Lamar Matthews, Arthur H. Siemens, Clyde Earl Miller, Everett William Flake, William David Lewis PM, Harry Thomas Dawson, and Cyril "Jack" Hoyle.
